Six years ago today, I drew this sketch from this crazy dream I had about a werewolf western series. And HIGH MOON was born -- sort of. Back then, Matthew Macgregor borrowed heavily from Gun Smoke and Have Gun, Will Travel -- but things changed, Steve Ellis and Scott O. Brown came on board -- Macgregor and the series took on a life of its own. And I'm grateful it did.

But, everything started here -- with this humble sketch ... six years ago.

We’ll talk about the HIGH MOON video game, discuss our experiences about Zuda, show a bunch of great HIGH MOON related art, discuss the Tristan spin-off, the planned anthology, the fifth season, we'll also link to some online interviews, and maybe even have a contest or two.

It is our way of saying ‘Thank You’ to all of our readers and fans for their tremendous support during our last three years at DC Comics.

An Open letter to Zuda creators and Zuda Fans....

I have mixed feelings about the changes at Zuda Comics. (see http://zuda.blog.dccomics.com/2010/07/01/the-future-of-zuda/). Even though some of the comics will continue into the future (including my and David Gallaher's High Moon) under a Zuda banner on PlayStation Network, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and on the web at comiXology and soon at DC online, approximately 30 ongoing series will be coming to an end.

Zuda was a bold experiment put together and administered by the crew at DC Comics to expand DC Comics into the webcomics world. It ran as a competition to bring in new talent, expose talent that had been on the sidelines of the comics biz, and allow that talent to shine in an environment that preferred new, original, creator-driven projects.

Some great new projects joined the world of comics, earning many awards and accolades for the creative teams. It created a community of supporters, readers and friends many times outside the mainstream of the comics reading public.

I have met and learned about creators from around the world. I got to enjoy their projects, be inspired by their creativity and drink their booze at con after-parties.

I have had a creative renaissance working on High Moon and was inspired on a daily basis by the support of the fans who posted regularly even though I was terrible at posting back. The fact that I was paid to create a project and be able to give it all of my time and effort to make it the best project possible and have an instant feedback community was a fantastic way to forge my skills as a storyteller and artist. Zuda has also facilitated the creation of a creative partnership with David Gallaher which has moved past High Moon to other projects like Box 13 from Red5 and Comixology as well as Darkstar and the Winter Guard from Marvel.

Now we are moving onto a new era of Zuda and a new era of High Moon. (see Kwanza Johnsons post from today http://zuda.blog.dccomics.com/)

It's bittersweet as we leave some friends to continue on their own. I look forward to seeing them continue these projects elsewhere or move onto new creative projects altogether. I expect Greatness from all of you guys.

There is a bond between us all forged by the common experience of having been through the sometimes gruelling competition process.

If I may speak for the other creators who will be moving forward with DC, we will always be Zudites together.

Named in honor of the late Harvey Kurtzman, one of the industry's most innovative talents, the Harvey Awards recognize outstanding work in comics and sequential art. Ballots are due for submission by April 23rd, 2010.

The Harvey Awards will be presented on August 28th, 2010 in Baltimore as part of the Baltimore Comic-Con. After a triumphant 2009 Harvey Awards, we are thrilled to welcome back Scott Kurtz, (www.pvponline.com) as The Master of Ceremonies for the awards dinner and presentation.

Nominations for the Harvey Awards are selected exclusively by creators - those who write, draw, ink, letter, color, design, edit or are otherwise involved in a creative capacity in the comics field. The Harvey Awards are the only industry award both nominated and selected by the full body of comic book professionals.

Professionals who participate will be joining thousands of your peers in honoring the outstanding achievements in comics for 2009. Abominable Charles Christopher – Follow the adventures of a dim-witted yeti through a forest full of colorful animal characters.

Black Cherry Bombshells – An ultra-violent girl gang fights for supremacy in a doomed future where all men have been mutated into flesh eating zombies.

Chicago 1968 – The Democratic National Convention has made its way to the Windy City. The Vietnam War has entered its bloodiest year … and with Abbie Hoffman in the picture, things are about to get really interesting!

Dorming – One of the gURL comix branded for teen girls. It’s pretty cute, and I dig the style.

Order of the Stick – As a table-top gamer, I find this medieval fantasy webcomic to be an accurate reflection of the patter that develops during our gaming sessions. See also: Knights of the Dinner Table.

Platinum Grit – Discover primitive magic and crazy adventures, as Jeremy and Nils encounter aliens, showgirls, succubi, and more.

Questionable Content – Looking for a slice-of-life comic to help you forget your troubles? Join Faye and the employees of the local coffee shop for some romantic melodrama and sexual humor.

Raising Hell – The tagline reads, “As much as they wished each other dead, their love refused to DIE!” That’s only the tip of the iceberg in this exceptionally well-rendered, EC Comics-inspired series.

Smash – Mix the humor of "Calvin & Hobbes" with the adventure of The Incredibles, and you’ll end up with something like this series!

Tiny Ghosts – A weekly photo-comic filled with robots, rag dolls, ballerinas, and melancholy humor. See also: A Softer World.

Ulysses Seen – James Joyce’s epic rendered in sequential form!

Vulcan and Vishnu – The travels and travails of two honest workmen devising their way around obstacles and through calamities on their way to fortune and glory.

xkcd – A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language, and a breakout hit over the last few years.

The deadline for Einser nominations is Friday March 13th!!!!

The best digital comic category is open to any new, professionally produced long-form original comics work posted online in 2008. Webcomics must have a unique domain name or be part of a larger comics community to be considered. The work must be online-exclusive for a significant period prior to being collected in print form. The URL and any necessary access information should be emailed to jackie@comic-con.org.

The Eisner Award nominees will be announced in April, and ballots will be mailed in May to professionals in the comics industry, including creators, editors, publishers, distributors, and retailers. Voters will also be able to cast their vote online. The results will be announced by celebrity presenters at the gala awards ceremony on the evening of July 24, 2009, at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
